The Musik für heute e.V. friends association supports Das Neue Ensemble and the creation of new contemporary music
Our friends association, Musik für heute e.V. wants more ‘music for today’ – and tomorrow! We therefore support Das Neue Ensemble in their apparently ever growing international activities as well as in their home base Hannover. Above and beyond, since our foundation in 1996 the association has regularly staged insight events around concerts and new works, and offered its members special ‘HörProben’ (‘reHearsals’). Direct dialogue with contemporary composers and exceptional performers is an important feature of our work; guests at public events and private ‘house concerts’ have included Helmut Lachenmann, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Carola Bauckholt, George Lewis and Johannes Schöllhorn, and pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
Along with this immediate and personal involvement with New Music works and their composers, the association also commissions new compositions and supports exceptional projects and productions such as:
— Ensemble-Gesellschaft, a joint venture by six contemporary music groups in Germany
— The international composition competition »Leibniz’s Harmonies« in 2016, with German Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Chinese Ambassador in Berlin, H.E. Shi Mingde as patrons
— »Daily Experiences«: Sound Art on World Exposition Square in Hannover city centre
Cross-disciplinary productions have included:
— »Kandinsky’s Violet« by Kirsten Winter and Stephan Meier; best short film, Montreal 1999
— »Restored Weekend«; Golden Plaque, Chicago 2003
— »TonFilm« (2006/2007) in collaboration with Braunschweig University of Art and HMTMH Hannover
— »Bürger haben kurze Fliegen« (2013) after Kurt Schwitters, with Hannover Playhouse.
